Yann Faucher
Weblog
Flickr
Incredible Flickr contact Yann Faucher has a portfolio site and it's worth a stop in. I favor portrait photography with a candid flare and that's exactly what his work is. I really love it. There are gems in all sections.

Got news yesterday from Martha that I can show some paintings at Hopworks on Powell Blvd. It's a fairly new Brewery, Bar, Restaurant in Portland. The size of the show will allow me to show some bigger pieces and most of the work I've created since I've been here. I'm excited to get some work out in the world. Especially during this season considering the amount of commissions that I've been getting of late. It's nice that people trust me with their images and have faith in my vision as an artist, so thanks.

enough about me...

Simon Henwood
I hadn't checked in on Simon Henwood in some time. Appears to have updated his site, which I'll admit confused me for like 18 hours over the weekend. He's also added tons of new work that has approved on his early formula. The figures are a lot more detailed and the subject matter from series to series it new and inspiring. I really like this guys work. He makes me want to go make something.

Mike Brodie
Living in this city continues to impress me. These are small things but big in my world sort of. Mike Brodie aka Polaroid Kidd is nothing less that an internet celebrity and an incredible photographer so to walk around and see his photos walking and talking is always a treat. The diptych above is Yoni Kifle and he took my money and stamped my hand at Rotture last year when me and Destiny went to see Celebration play. He's also a photographer and has shown around Portland here and there. You can google his name and get some cool results. The lady in the inset is Susan (Suzanne) and she weeds the yard of the people a block up from me. I talked to her for a minute about planting before I realized I recognized her from Mike Brodie's work. These people are "Everyday People" which is the basis of Brodie's shots but capturing them in moments has, in my eyes, made them "celebrity" of sort. That's a nice thing to me. That's the wonder of photography, see good photography, being able to catch a moment and aside from capturing it on film being able to ingrain it in the heads of the viewer and in a sense transcend the subject to something other than just a subject. I'm volleying topics in this post but I think you all understand.

School of Language
Destiny and I had the pleasure of seeing David Brewis' School of Language play at Towne Lounge last Thursday. It was quite a performance even in Towne Lounge's tiny venue. I think that place is great though. It's basically a dive bar and very lucky to have and excellent booking person. Although the show wasn't packed the band packed the energy and humorous between song banter that makes for a good performance. I don't suppose it needs to be said that the music was incredible. If you haven't heard this project do yourself a favor and hunt it down. It's excellent.

Revisit some excellent work won't you:

Portrait Set
I added a portrait set on my Flickr page. Just some of the candids and non-candids of friends and people I've encountered over the years. Take a look if you want to.

The Brothers Avett

So The Avett Brothers came through Portland like a whirlwind in the form of broken strings, toe tapping, foot stomping, high hat clashing and bass spinning all wrapped up in 4 free shows and one in-store. I didn't miss a show, albeit came late to a couple. They completely blindsided so many of the spectators at these shows. I could look at the shift in appreciation during the shows. The look of uncertainty when these boys with Bluegrass instruments get up there then the change to jubilee when they start treating those instruments like Punk Rock Toys. I'm not gonna ramble on about it. I'll show it to you in pictures. I will say that I am incredible proud of the boys. From the humble beginnings of Fat City shows to packed shows from NYC to Portland, Oregon. Keep it up guys.

Mike Brodie and PLRDS
Mike Brodie and PLRDS is a website with a healthy aversion towards the polaroid medium. Wonderfully washed images with deep saturated hues. Some really beautiful and unique subject matter. The portraits are some of the most moving I've seen around the interweb. Spend a lot of time there and fall in love with PLRDS.

Karin Bubas
She appears to be the one responsible for AC Newman's Slow Wonder photography, which was quite cool mind you. Check around her sites. Really nice photos of almost doll home like interiors.

Don Poush and Grindle are spinning the hits tonight at DISH. For all those that are into that type of thing. I will make an appearance then head back home to finish up a commission that I am working on. A commission that I am jazzed about. Its a photobooth image so its four different portraits of the same person. I did four seperate canvases so that they could mix and match. I will post as soon as I am done...AS SOON!

I am so bored.

What should I do?

The above picture is an intentional/unintentional model shot of me in the gallery taken by Deuce. The links below are more images of the trip.

Ryan's Norfolk Photos
Deuce's Norfolk Photos

Enjoy my friends photos from Norfolk until I g et my dinosaur analog camera pictures developed. Hopefully it will be well worth the wait...

So, I felt that "Brick" was extremely overwrought, painfully overacted and too intense for its own good. I struggle to find something that enthralls me about it. Something that could level out the unnecessarily strained performances, the attempts at comic relief that fall flat. I understand that it is getting good reviews but it is beyond me as to why. It is not the worst movie by any means. I just didn't like the whole Highschool Gumshoe get to the bottom of things aspect. "Ya did good Brain". The female in the flick, though very attractive was not a very good actress and Megan Good was pointless. I thought Richard Roundtree in his brief cameo delivered the goods as the "VP" but thats where I will stop.

Aaron Smith
Very nice paintings.

Richard Prince
Always and forever, one of my artistic heroes...Love love love the Joke Paintings and the Nurse ones! I feel very privileged to have seen both of the shows in NYC with my own eyes!

Tez Humphreys
Has some really rad illustrations in the new ANTHEM. Check him out and check ANTHEM out!

This Saturday I am doing something. Whoever is reading this is welcome to do this with me. First, I am waking up and doing some painting then I am driving to Mt. Pleasant, NC to dig through junk at Don Cline's Junk Yard, time permitting I am going to the Webb Road Flea Market and then I am going to Century Vintage to watch the Virginia Reel play for free at 4pm. BYOB. I think that is a good day...and thats not even including the nights events!!!Who's with me???

First Friday of July. I am having an art show with Jim Fales and some other people at Art House. Think about coming. There will be the portraits I had at DISH and hopefully some new ones. So yeah.

DISH tonight? Who is DJing?

Alright, back to work...have a nice day.
